How To Remove Gum From Pavement
If you live in a suburban or an urban area, sticky bits of gum often accumulate on concrete driveways. Even though it is not a pleasant task globally, gums on these surfaces can be gotten rid of, and restoring your driveway’s clean appearance. When getting rid of gums, there may be a lot of targets to put emphasis on. You may want to clean different regions at once, enabling you to complete the exercise fast. Our technicians follow a proven gum removal process.
Step 1: You should fill a plastic bag with ice cubes and little amount of cold water. Then enclose the bag and put it on the gum spots on the driveway. Let it stand for 15 minutes prior to proceeding.
TIP: Chilling the gum helps to remove it.If possible, you can select a cool day to get rid of the gum from the driveway, or it can be done during the evening for ice to freeze the gum minus melting it.
Step 2: Scrap the chewing gum with the help of a plastic scraper. By this time, the ice water will have made the gum harder and making it brittle and easy to rid without it adhering to the tools. If the gum is sticky up to this time, you can put the bag of ice on it again and let it stand for another 15 minutes prior to making another attempt.
Step 3: Using denatured alcohol, saturate a rag and place it on the surface of gum remnants. Let it stand for between 10 to 15 minutes and remove the rag.
Step 4: Using a stiff bristled brush, remove the other gum residues. If it is difficult to remove after some minutes of scrubbing, it is vital to reapply the rag which is soaked with lots of denatured alcohol and give it some minutes.
As the last effort, a wire brush can be employed to get rid of the gum residues from the concrete driveway. Bear in mind, however, that the brush can scratch the driveway. So, the work should be done with a lot of care.
Step 5: Clean the whole driveway with a combination of warm water and dish soap to rinse all the denatured alcohol which may be remaining on the concrete.
