How to Remove Graffiti From A Car Window
Nobody wants to be seen driving around town with an offensive message plastered across their windshield. Fortunately, there are a few ways to effectively remove graffiti from the windows and other glass surfaces of your vehicle. Most spray paint won’t adhere to glass very well, so if you have a razor blade handy you can try to scrape it off. You’ll want to hold the blade firmly against the glass at angle of 45 degrees or less. While applying pressure toward the glass, move the razor along the surface slowly. You can try to “chip” away at the paint by moving the blade back and forth quickly.
If the vandal’s markings are not easily removed by scraping with a razor, your next best option is to remove the graffiti chemically. You might hear people suggest the use of paint thinner for such a task, but this is discouraged as you run the risk of damaging your car’s paint job. Your safest option is to use a commercial graffiti removal formula. These can be purchased at big-box and hardware stores. One of the most popular graffiti removers is called Goof Off. I’ve used it myself, and highly recommend it for its effectiveness.
Using Goof Off is easy. Apply a small amount to a cloth (lint-free cloth works best) then rub the affected area vigorously. You’ll want to move your hand in circular motions as this is most effective. Sometimes you will not be able to remove all of the graffiti through the use of a cloth alone. In this case, you should apply Goof Off liberally to the affected area. Next, use an old toothbrush to scrub the graffiti in tight circular motions. This will help loosen the remaining material. Once you’ve scrubbed the entire vandalized surface, use a hose (or power washer) to wash away the Goof Off and paint particles.
That’s it! With a little knowledge and the proper tools, it’s easy to remove graffiti from your car windows. For more challenging work, call us.
